I was a little shocked that my PC Magazine subscription was moving from the paper magazine I received over the years to only a digital magazine. PC Magazine, as well as some other magazines have their online magazines distributed digitally through Zinio. The service allows the user to read the magazine online or download it directly to their computer and can be transported anywhere. Zinio offers a reader to read the downloaded magazines.
I was a bit skeptical but I gave Zinio a chance. I hated my first experience. There is something to be said about holding paper and reading it in bed, on the airplane or on the toilet. My main problem with Zinio is that the reader does not give the user more control of zooming in and zooming out, and page turning can be a little akward in the beginning. The magazines on Zinio look like the magazines on the news stand. The player also turns the pages and opens inserts like a human.
I gave Zinio a second chance and I began to like the experience. I subscribed to a few more magazines and found them equally as enjoyable. While it make time for me to leave my printed magazines behind, this is a very good start.
